The techniques used in these courses and seminars are part of caycedian Sophrology. This is a method created around 1960 by the Spanish psychiatrist and neurosurgon Professor Alfonso Caycedo, then Professor in Psychiatry at the Faculty of Medicine of Barcelona and Director of the Department of Psychosomatic of the University Clinic of Barcelona. It is based on western psychology, existential phenomenology (Husserl, Heidegger, Binswanger) and of various himalayan Yoga and Zen techniques divested of mysticism and he called it

Sophrology

This name was coined by Caycedo using the four Greek syllables

SOS
=
peace, harmony, serenity
PHREN
=
consciousness, mind, brain
LOGOS
=
discourse, study, science
Sophrology signifies therefore :
Science of the Harmony of the Conscious

Initially intended for therapeutic purposes in psychiatry only, it rapidly proved most efficient also in prophylactics (prevention of disease) and as an existentialist training of the conscious mind. Although the origin of Sophrology is to find in Psychiatry, it is not an analytic tool. It is concerned with the structures of the conscious mind and not with its contents (i.e. memory). The basic technique of Sophrology is the Dynamic Relaxation which is practised sitting, standing and in movement to learn a state of well-being and yet dynamic relaxation in any situation of active life.

Used in therapy, these techniques are recognised by most health insurance institutions in Switzerland.

Sophrology is a science independent from any doctrine or movement and does not treat with metaphysics, esoterism or religion. It is not only an excellent relaxation method, but the state of relaxation is a preliminary step which allows working on the conscious mind according to ones own needs.

Pratice of Sophrology puts oil into the gear work of our psychic and physical faculties, opens horizons, helps it to boeam freely, calms the mind and brings serenity to prevail. It improves global health, concentration and memory, motivation, learning and anticipation capacities. Creativity and interhuman communication are stimulated and harmonised. It removes blockages, liberates from a priori which hold us back from going to the bottom ouf ourselves, renders independant and liberates from adiction. It makes more serene, chases the blues and spleen and helps to bring back the joie de vivre.

Specific techniques allow to train oneself for a more positive existence It offers a set of highly efficient techniques and tools for stress and crisis managment, emotion control, phsychological preparation of exams, sports competition, negotiations, interviews and public appearances
